The main goals of the Centre for Landscape and Territorial Studies, which are also reflected in the framework collaboration agreement, are:

a. The scientific knowledge of Andalusian landscapes, taking into account both their natural constituents and their use, management and organization for human activities.

b. The development of innovative and technological tools which improve the knowledge of landscape, territory and geographical information, particularly with regards to GIS.

c. To contribute to landscape knowledge at all educational levels, especially at University, with a particular emphasis on post-graduate courses.

d. To promote, among the population of Andalusia, territorial culture and geographic information, through the knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of landscapes. 

e. To enhance the image of Andalusia, improving knowledge on its landscape and territorial diversity and the elements which bring cohesion to the region.

f. To support public bodies which wish to achieve an effective management of the landscape, increasing the theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge of spatial planning, the management of natural resources and the prevention of natural and human-induced risks for society.

g. To update spatial information regularly through the creation of a Landscape Observatory of Andalucia, which has been conceived as  a tool for the monitoring of the evolution and dynamic characteristics of the Andalusian territory and landscapes.

h. To co-operate with other scientific bodies in Andalucia, especially universities, research centres and university departments which are interested in the knowledge of territory and landscape, in order to achieve and  share the mentioned goals.

i. To participate in national and international scientific research networks with similar goals.

j. Likewise,  and taking into account the terms and limitations of the agreement, the Centre may:

 > Assess an disseminate among social and economic stakeholders and  public authorities, the acquired knowledge regarding the Andalusian territory and landscapes.

> Promote and participate in international co-operation initiatives that deal with landscape knowledge, protection, management and planning, particularly those regarding  developing countries, mainly in South America and the Maghreb.
