The Centre for Landscape and Territorial Studies was created in 2005 through a framework collaboration agreement established between the Council of Public Works and Transport of the Regional Government of Andalucia and the Universities of Sevilla, Granada, Malaga, Cordoba, Cadiz, Almeria, Huelva, Jaen, Internacional de Andalucia and Pablo de Olavide.

The creation of the Centre for Landscape and Territorial Studies is aimed at enhancing co-operation between the Council of Public Works and Transport and the public universities of Andalucia and fostering interaction among different lines of work, researchers, scientists, teachers and policies concerning landscape and spatial planning.

The Centre for Landscape and Territorial Studies  is a body ascribed to the Andalusian System of Knowledge Agents, to which the following Research Groups are also ascribed: HUM-396 "Territorial Structures and Systems"; HUM-177 "Geography and Regional and Urban Development"; HUM-247 "Geographical Studies" and HUM-875 "Territorial and Touristic Studies".
