The research group "Territorial structures and systems" (GIEST) was created in 1995 and is an interdisciplinary group consisting of 50 members among whom there are senior and junior researchers from different universities of Andalucia and other practitioners belonging to both the public and private sphere. The lines of research are:


• Territorial development as a manifestation of environmental, economic and social equilibrium.

• Landscape as a complex reality and a mix of objects and perceptions.
• Populations and their mobility through territories: migrations and marginalizations.
• Weather and its territorial and social footprint.
• Water and territorial order: towards a new water culture.


The main researcher of the group is currently Maria Fernanda Fernandez Pita.
